Overview

CleanX is a browser extension that filters content on X (Twitter). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data CleanX accesses, how it's used, and your rights.

Data Collection

CleanX does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us. We do not operate servers that receive your data.

What CleanX Accesses Locally

CleanX accesses the following data, which remains entirely on your device:

Third-Party Services

Cloud AI Mode (Default)

When using Cloud AI mode, post text is sent to our CleanX API, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API for analysis:

Post text (up to 600 characters per post) is sent for analysis
No personal information, usernames, or account data is sent
Analysis results are returned immediately and not stored on our servers
Subject to Google's Privacy Policy
You can switch to On-Device AI or keyword-only mode for complete privacy

On-Device AI Mode

If you use on-device AI (Chrome 138+), all analysis happens locally on your computer. No data is sent anywhere.

Keyword-Only Mode

If you disable AI entirely, CleanX only uses your keyword lists for filtering. No external services are contacted.

Data Storage

All CleanX data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage.local API:

Filter settings - Your preferences (AI mode, keywords, etc.)
Feedback history - Your responses to improve filtering
Usage statistics - Counts of filtered posts (stored locally for your reference)

This data:

Never leaves your browser
Is not synced across devices
Can be cleared at any time via the extension settings
Is deleted if you uninstall the extension

Data We Do NOT Collect

Personal information (name, email, etc.)
Browsing history
X account information
Posts you view or interact with
Analytics or telemetry about your usage
Cookies or tracking identifiers

Your Rights

You have full control over your data:

Access: All data is stored in your browser and visible in extension settings
Delete: Click "Clear All Data" in extension settings, or uninstall the extension
Export: Use the "Export Training Data" feature to download your feedback history
Opt-out: Disable AI features at any time to use keyword filtering only

Permissions Explained

CleanX requests these Chrome permissions:

Children's Privacy

CleanX is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Changes will be posted here with an updated "Last Updated" date.
